How we learn
Art, language and real life — from the quebrada to the world.
The De Quebra method comes from the experience of people who learned language in practice: by listening, reading, traveling, making mistakes and retelling stories. Alexandre Ribeiro brings together literature, video, orality and everyday conversations to teach English and German to Brazilians and Portuguese to foreigners. No promises of automatic fluency, certification or miracle methods: the proposal is to study with representation, care and critical thinking.

Where it comes from
The method came out of a classroom, not a slide deck.
De Quebra started as an answer to a number that did not add up: surveys kept repeating that almost nobody in Brazil speaks English, but never showed who was being left out of the count — families in the outskirts, people who study in the hours left over from work. The first classes were free, precisely to find out in the room what actually worked, and the first in-person group met at Casa do Hip Hop, in Diadema.
From there came the choices that still hold the method together: studying the language the world actually speaks — including the English of Black communities in the United States — instead of chasing an advertising accent; using literature, rap and cinema as the text of the lesson; and dealing with migration, work and identity from beginner level, because that is what our students' lives are made of.
